High Blood Pressure/Hypertension
High blood pressure (HBP), or hypertension, refers to a condition which exacts high pressure (tension) in the arteries. Where normal blood pressure is below 120/80; a blood pressure of 140/90 or above is considered high. High blood pressure usually causes no symptoms, which is why it is often labelled "the silent killer".
How Does It Occur?
For 90% of individuals diagnosed with hypertension, the cause of high blood pressure is not known. The most common causes of hypertension include age, race, socio-economic status, gender, and hereditary factors. Others factors include obesity, sodium sensitivity, alcoholism, use of contraceptives, lack of exercise, and certain medication, all of which contribute to a higher risk of hypertension.
Individuals with high blood pressure may experience headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, chest pains and breathlessness. Chronic high blood pressure may lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, eye damage with progressive vision loss, Peripheral arterial disease, and aneurysms. Individuals who suffer from malignant hypertension will experience headaches, light-headedness, nausea, vomiting, and stroke-like symptoms. This may also lead to more extreme conditions such as brain haemorrhage or stroke.
A combination of specialised Functional Wellness equipment, massage techniques and exercises can aid/alleviate and prevent high blood pressure symptoms. While massage therapies and exercise will work towards strengthening the body, improve cardiovascular, central nervous, respiratory systems, normalise metabolism, improve circulation, lower blood pressure, relieve physical stress, and promote muscle relaxation, specialised equipment like ultrasound, laser machines and blood analyzers can aid in the monitoring, regulation and effective moderation of blood pressure.
