Pain due to injuries/infections
In any case where the skin is broken to cause an open wound or injury, infection may set in. Infections can be classified as either of three different types; localised, systemic or cellulitis. Systemic infections can be serious and may even prove fatal if left untreated.
How Does It Occur?
The skin is the protective layer around the body which prevents infectious organisms from penetrating. With open wounds/injuries, infection-causing bacteria, viruses, and fungi can infiltrate the body system.
Common symptoms of a localised infection include warm/hot skin, pain, pus-like discharge, redness and swelling. Fever and chills may also accompany. Common symptoms of a systemic infection include fever, shaking chills, overall weakness and joint aches. If cellulitis (a serious local infection) develops, the skin around the wound will be swollen, red, and thickened in texture. Symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, red streaks on the skin, fever and chills, etc.
If left untreated, Injuries and infections may lead to neurological problems or other serious conditions.
