Infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant after one year of vaginal intercourse without birth control. This condition affects an average of 10% of couples. Approximately one-third of infertility cases affect the women; one-third with the man; and one-third with either both partners or by unknown causes.
How Does It Occur?
Causes of infertility in women include: Hyperprolactinemia, age, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), damaged ovaries, blocked fallopian tubes, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, scarring in the uterus, fibroids, congenital diseases like cystic fibrosis, excessive exercise, anorexia or bulimia, weight fluctuations, and damage to the cervix (i.e. through abortions). Causes of infertility in men include: hormonal disturbances, smoking, overheating of testicles, cancer medications and radiation therapy, mumps, STIs, anatomical abnormalities, certain medications, genital injury, prostrate surgery, varicose veins in the testicles, intercourse issues, spinal cord injury drug use, steroids and opiates.
The most common symptom of infertility is when after a year of unprotected sex, couples still cannot conceive. An irregular cycle, severe menstrual cramps are red flags for infertility problems. A woman who experiences recurrent miscarriages is also considered to be dealing with infertility. For males who experience sexual dysfunction, this could be an infertility red flag. Being excessively thin or overweight can lead to infertility problems. Extreme or poor dieting practices, or too much exercise, can lead to problems with fertility.
In many cases, infertility is related to improper nervous system function, poor nutrition, high stress and poor lifestyle habits. Chiropractic treatments which include keeping the spine properly aligned, clearing the nervous system of excessive interference, nutritional care, and exercise will help improve body functions, and thus resolve infertility concerns and even significantly enhance chances of medical procedures such as IVF.
