Numbness & Tingling
Numbness refers to decreased or lost sensation in the skin, while tingling refers to an unusual sensation experienced in the skin. This is often described as "pins and needles", pricking, creeping, etc. This condition can be temporary or permanent. For certain conditions such as restless leg syndrome, tingling, numbness, burning, itchiness and pain may manifest simultaneously.
How Does It Occur?
Common causes of numbness and tingling include: obdormition (numbness caused by prolonged pressure on the nerve), whiplash, hyperventilation syndrome, panic attack, dehydration, transient ischemic attack (TIA), beta-alanine ingestion, seizures, Raynaud phenomenon, Insufficient blood supply in atherosclerotic arteries, etc. other causes include: trauma, neurologic events and metabolic disorders.
Common symptoms include painless tingling or numbness. Other symptoms include pain, muscular weakness, cramps, abnormal reflexes, warmth or cool feeling, paleness, redness, swelling, and rashes, etc.
